T2 "T-Square" Suri: The Barn, Fence, and Field |
|
![]() |
This is a 3 story barn, 66' x 44', straight as an arrow post and beam. There is a small carving on one of the inside beams dated 1864. Best we can tell, at one time this was a sheep farm. There are tell tale signs from old receipts, and the way the hay feeders and stalls were built. The shed dormer was not in great shape back in 2004, and the floor boards on the immediate inside were in questionable shape. We took out the flooring in 1/3 of the barn, dug it down, put in an extensive drain system, and poured a cement floor. We removed enough stones to build 3 stone wall sections, each 20' long, 3 feet high in front of our house. After the area designated for the alpacas was brought up to speed, we fenced in just over 2 acres out in the field. To accomplish that, we purchased a King Hitter Post Pounder, and pounded some 90 4-5 inch cedar posts into the ground. Ledge - you betcha! Each post took about 75 hits to get deep enough, but it was worth it. We used no-climb fence, fixed knot Bekaert 12-1/2 gauge galvanized 15-61-6 with mesh gates. |
